Instructor Letter

Dear Student,

Welcome to Vietnamese 180.

My name is Dung Ngoc Tran, and I am an instructor at Coastline Community College in Fountain Valley, California. I will be helping you learn the Vietnamese language, elementary level 2. In Vietnam I graduated in Vietnamese literature and also earned an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) instructor diploma. I taught EFL from 1972 to 1975 and from 1980 to 1991 in Saigon. In the U.S. I earned a degree in linguistics together with a TESOL Certificate, and I have been teaching ESL and Computer Skills for ESL at School of Continuing Education of North Orange Country Community College District from July 1997. From 1999 I began to teach ESL at Lincoln Center/Garden Grove Unified School District. In February 2001 I started teaching Vietnamese at Coastline, and a year later at Santa Ana College. I also taught a number of Vietnamese classes at UCLA, UCI and UCR from 2001 to 2005.
