Instructor Letter

LOGIC & CRITICAL THINKING, Philosophy 115

Dear Student:

Welcome to your Instructional Internet-based course.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
John A. Doyle, Ph.D.

As your instructor, I will be assisting you throughout the course.

My educational background includes B.A. level studies in philosophy at All Hallows College, Dublin, Ireland; M.A. degree in counseling psychology from Loyola University Los Angeles; and a Ph.D. degree in Social Ethics from the University of Southern California. I am also a California licensed marriage, family and child counselor.

Thinking is a common human experience; the challenge is to think well. Much of our thinking, left unexamined, is imprecise, biased, distorted, uninformed, or plain prejudiced. Yet the quality of our academic and everyday life is dependent upon the quality of our thought. The focus of this course will be to sharpen your thinking skills to where you can formulate issues and problems more clearly and precisely, and come to well-reasoned conclusions and solutions.
